about
-----
Little Red Boat is the soundtrack that accompanies the story of a person traveling alone through the deep waters of the ocean, a journey into the unknown, inward.
It was born from a dream I had where I saw a little red boat sailing towards China. I woke up with this very visual image in my head and the song came out in a little while, like an impulsive act that gave a message through me.
That same day I played in a cycle of singer-songwriters where I played the lyrics with a machete so as not to forget a word. The silence of the public and their response at the end of the song were key indications that in the medium term he was going to record it.
Such a narrative song implied a production with elements that alluded to what was being told. This is how we approach that second creative stage.
It alludes to the great Joni Mitchell in her way of telling a story not only with the chosen words but also with the melodies, the orchestration and the arrangements thought out in every detail.
The strength and depth of the storm and the calm after it. All this happens in the 4 minutes that the song lasts where we can hear elements of traditional folk with an acoustic orchestration; a Creole guitar
opaque and soft, the fluidity of a piano that accompanies and proposes different layers of depth, an intriguing and powerful string ensemble and a sweet but powerful voice that captures the emotions to which this song refers.
lyrics
Last night I had the strangest dream
I sailed away to China
It poured a little rain
But suddenly the sun come out and you appeared
In a little red boat trying to find you
I’ve been trying to live as a sailor
I’ve been trying to live
And then you came,
And then you’re gone
And the waters drowned my heart
The horizon seems to get further away
As I sail to find you
The night shows up
But suddenly a star appears and lights the way
In a little red boat trying to find you
I’ve been trying to live as a sailor
I’ve been trying to live
And then you came,
And then you’re gone
And the waters drowned my heart
And then you came
And then you’re gone
And we become strangers once again, again
You left me as a stranger all alone
in the middle of the sea
In case you wanna know
I did not make it to China
The sea became my home
The waves became my friends

This album is good. You know it's good. Everyone knows it's good. So why hasn't it sold a billion copies? Because everybody is hoarding it in their wishlist. Stop scrolling. Buy this album. The time has come to open thy heart/wallet! Also check out Ceara Conway. She sings not jazz but sean nós, and she's not Mongolian but Irish, but I get the same energy from both of their solo vocals. I have nothing else to say, but I will continue typing nonsense. This rules, it's fire, track 8 is a bop, etc. acmochi
